Golden Hollywood Standard The title, however, as well as the trailers, suggested some completely unthinkable thrash. But immediately came to mind the idea that Hollywood still will not go to that widely and expensive to promote a movie of this category.
At first, the film is incredibly exciting. The plot develops in a half-empty town, where everything is in its place - a mysterious stranger without a past, inept bartender, a local beauty, a harsh sheriff, as well as holding in respectable fear everything and all the "private entrepreneur", who has a cruel temper and a stupid son-majeure, always hiding behind a folder.
Events develop slowly, almost without musical accompaniment and all that the film lacks to vividly remind of spaghetti westerns is extreme attacks on faces, squinting, focused glances of the main characters and meditative, maddening impatient viewers, pauses.
Even the first appearance of the unknown in the form of large glowing lights is not annoying at all, since the trailers have already told that the aliens will not do anything about it.
But a little later, all this slenderness and successful imitation of cowboy fighters of the past rolls into tartarara, giving way to sweet and incredible Hollywood crafts, where, no matter what happens to the heroes, no matter what disasters fall, they, armed only with the pathos of words and heroic perseverance, will overcome everything.
A serious disappointment befell me personally when a character appeared on the stage who was aware of the intentions of the villains and how to achieve them. How the hell from the bottle falls this know-it-all on the heads of the heroes, gives them the necessary recipes and generally tells you that it is quite possible to defeat the attack.
But this is not enough: the screenwriters did not forget to resort to the help of the Indian miraculous potions, which added to the film a certain mysticism and made me mentally put an end to it.
Further development of the plot is on rolled rails. People do not cease to end, monsters grow twice taller than people, fall backwards, a couple of bundles of dynamite create with seemingly unshakable strongholds I do not know what.
The last half hour, when the denouement directly takes place, the viewer has long understood what the end of the film is and is waiting only for confirmation of his guesses, to then make sure that for the hundredth time he was right, and the miracles of modern Hollywood are no longer necessary.
Surprisingly, 5 people worked on the story. Most likely, three of them diligently watched previous films about aliens to take some plot moves on note.
I note, however, that everything was filmed perfectly, atmospheric and somehow catchy. I caught myself thinking an hour and a half after watching, that I managed to get used to the wonderful sandy expanses of local places and characters.
Speaking of which. Perhaps, the authors especially turned out the hero of Harrison Ford: a man ambiguous, who has seen a lot in life, which made him a man closed, principled and unsociable. Watching a completely different person gradually unfold in him was interesting.
Unfortunately, the work of other characters is not so good: they are all quite stereotyped and predictable.
I will not talk much about special effects: the name of director John Favreau has long been the hallmark of films with expensive and high-quality sounds and pictures.
It is a pity that the plot did not meet expectations, turned out to be too simple, too sweet and Hollywood predictable.
In everything else, the film, if not a candy, then a very strong sample of a modern adventure action movie, tasty shot, with the involvement of "dear" actors, and diligently entertaining us in full program.
